TYPES OF FURNITURE

Romania is still ranking among the first 30 world furniture producers. And remains a well-known furniture supplier (16th among the world exporters, 7th in EU – 2016 data). Roughly 85% of furniture production is going to foreign markets, as a sign of adaptation to the world’s trends in this industry, with a real competitive advantage.

It is part of the wood processing industry that enhances the value of the wood to a higher level as "renewable material", using the craft, artistry and other supplementary materials necessary in the products construction. The wooden species and the other used materials in the products constructions are mainly indigenous, ecological, providing the consumers an increased confidence in buying some quality, functional, sustainable products, which do not affect their health, but ensure their suitable comfort.

In recent years, customers tend to choose pieces of furniture with multiple functions and in neutral colours, precisely to be able to change their role. Another trend in the woodworking industry is that of ecological furniture. There are also entrepreneurs who have come up with novelties in the field: they managed to turn recycled wood into luxury furniture. Nevertheless, the successful models on foreign markets are also sought nationally. The most popular furniture remains for Romanians classic style one, made of beech and sweet cherry tree wood.

According to FRD Center, the furniture manufacturing in Romania is well known for its long tradition and good quality. The strong points of the Romanian furniture producers are:

  •     availability of resources, including good quality wood;
  •     relatively low labour costs;
  •     high level of technical qualifications.
