ABOUT ROMANIAN WOOD CRAFTS
The Romanian furniture industry has a century-long tradition and more, a fact well known in Europe. Many markets are aware of the versatility and high quality of the exported products labeled as Made in Romania. Even though Romania has a strong wood industry and performing furniture production, sometimes we have the feeling that, as it is the case of other market players from the CEE countries, the small and medium companies have less chances to make their brands known abroad.
We took up the challenge of doing something! Thus, helping those who want more became our mission. The pilot project, Integrated Export Services for Romanian SMEs, co-financed by Switzerland through the Swiss Contribution to the enlarged European Union, aims at helping Romanian producers from training to taking part into international exhibitions.
In this venture, we started by establishing two regional Export Business Centers (EBC), able to combine local and international expertise to increase export in two of the main sectors: organic agriculture and wood furniture. Next, we have selected companies from all over the country, based both on their quality products and willingness to compete at broader levels. We have already provided training sessions for 40 companies and backed up the development of two clusters. The 15 most promising companies, empowered with an elaborate export business plan, were selected to participate into three international exhibitions across the globe. This group of champions faces the foreign markets under the common brand: Romanian Wood Crafts.
